Small-ish, amazing cocktails and great food. If you’re taking someone on a date request the semi-private table right in front of the entrance. I recommend ordering the Dry aged beef carpaccio, Le Turtle steak and Hamachi tartare. The tequila cocktail was really good.
Basically Bohemian’s number is not to be found. Located behind a butcher shop, you need a referral to get a reservation and you’ll be lucky if you even find a reservation at a good time. So, although the reservation process may be tiring, it’s well worth it! 😉 I recommend getting the steak, sashimi, tartare, shrimps and burger (burger is cooked medium so if you prefer it well done make sure to request that). I’d definitely say Bohemian is date material and although I didn’t sit at the bar I definitely wouldn’t mind.
(Midtown) Excellent, very fresh sushi. I advise sitting at the bar and having the Omakase for the full experience. The chef prepares a tasting menu of his choice, inform him before hand if you don’t eat certain things.
(Chelsea) If you’re in the mood for something different I recommend ordering their specialities. I wouldn’t recommend the omakase here as I personally prefer to have omakase in very traditional Japanese restaurants. Try to get a seat by the bar it’s part of the whole experience (speaking to the chef, asking him for the specials etc.), sitting at a table won’t make it much different than any other sushi restaurant.
(West Village) Excellent omakase experience. You also have the choice of eating a la carte but I highly recommend omakase.
Known for their heavenly peking duck, Decoy is another restaurant that’s difficult to get reservations. Make sure that you book in advance to guarantee finding a spot. When having the prix fixe, for the mains I recommend ordering the NY Strip Steak, we didn’t like the Truffle lobster so I don’t recommend it.
Another Jean George success, AbcV is an excellent vegetarian option. I highly recommend it! Recommended dishes:
I don’t recommend ordering dessert though – I didn’t LOVE anything. I recommend either the bottle of (taking the name from the receipt) J125 Mouton Noir or a glass of GL Pinot Noir.
(Soho) Excellent option for a good well-priced meal. I definitely recommend the fish or the moules.
(Greenwich village) Burrata, Rigatoni a la Vodka, Milanese.
(Brooklyn) Amazing outdoor seating area. Their food and service is really good. I recommend the burger and the fried shrimp salad. Everything we ordered was great but these were my top 2.
(Chelsea) Blue Cheese burger, if you don’t like blue cheese you can ask for the burger without that!
(Soho) Well known for their pizza, never tried their pastas but apparently they’re excellent! Often difficult to find space but give it a try on Resy or just wait in line!
(Soho) Owned by 2 Australians which you can tell by a few touches in the menu. Super casual. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner 7/7. I recommend:
Everyone brunches in NYC but visitors usually end up at the mainstream spots. Let’s make sure that’s not the case for you! Here’s a little list of my favourite brunch spots in NYC.
Lovely seating area with a skylight, the NoMad hotel offers a great brunch menu. I’d say my top dishes were the Prawn fritters, Lobster salad and the burger. Other popular items are the Chicken burger and Chicken sandwich.
(Soho) Although this may be considered “mainstream” the food here is great. Make sure to book a table. Definitely order the Vol au vent!
(Church St.) Cute little spot, I recommend
(Carmine St) This is less packed than the Lafayette St one and the food is just as good! Recommended for brunch only.
(Flatiron) My all time favourite. Many different places you can eat in, in Eataly. Ranges from a bakery to a Nutella bar, pizza restaurant and many more. Everything is freshly made. The food is so good there and the best part is you can also buy your groceries from there. I usually go for my much needed dose of fresh mortadella, bresaola and burrata.
(Soho) Light snack when you’re on the run. My Favourite is the Fresh Fruit Granola.
Enjoy!

Excellent suggestions. I used to live in NYC but have now been gone so long most of my old stand-bys are gone! I will be there in the Fall, so this list is very welcome. Thank you!
