Although we didn’t spend a long time in Remedios but I am so glad our driver/guide, Maikel took us there. The Iglesia San Juan Bautista de Remedios is the oldest church in Cuba, and one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. We were guided by Lazaro which was excellent, he spoke great English and explained everything in detail. The church has been there since the 1500s and has some of the most beautiful work – the wood carvings in the wall of the church are finished with 22k gold as seen in the photo above! The wall is so well maintained which really shows you how much the Cubans really cherish what they have.
The house below (pinkish/orange colour) was built in the colonial times and has been turned into a hotel, as are the majority of the buildings/houses in Cuba. We didn’t stay or eat there, we just had a look inside.
